The State Council of Illinois Square Dance Associations consists of eight (8) associations around the state.  These associations represent approximately 8,400 square dancers in the State of Illinois.  The State Council of Illinois Square Dance Associations (SCISDA) is the sponsor of the Illinois State Square and Round Dance Convention which is one of the greatest square dance conventions in the world.  This convention is as close to a National Square Dance Convention as you can get without going to the National.  SCISDA also sponsors the Illinois State Fair Square Dance each year at the Illinois State Fair (agr.state.il.us).

In 1990, square dancing was declared the official state folk dance as referenced on the Illinois State Museum Society - State Symbols (museum.state.il.us) website.
